PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Our project – (Following In the Footsteps of our Ancestors (FIFA) - The Storytellers) poses the question for each of the partner institutions, 'What are the social, cultural and historical influences that have shaped where our pupils live today?' Not only national influences, but more importantly those very specific local and regional influences.
We believe that in each partner country we can find cultural traces of visits and inspiration from our partner-countries. These take various forms such as migration, emigration, traditions, folklore, music, cuisine, science and religion. These are areas that pupils will work with in order to generate a better understanding of similarities, differences and diversities in our cultural heritage.
We will use a variety of approaches to the exploration of the set question .
Our main task running through the project will be the creation of The FIFA Library – populated by stories that have been created by pupils about their own culture and those they have visited. These will be supported by video diaries and written testimonials. Stories can be presented in a variety of formats but then recorded electronically for submission onto the project website and as testimony to the work done over the two years.
Work will take place in individual partner schools across different areas of the curriculum both in and out of school time. Work will also take place between partner schools using email, social media, the project website and video conferencing. Finally, mobilities will be used to open up new avenues of inquiry and also to consolidate work done in individual schools, as well as that done between partners using electronic media.
