The National Pedagogic College "Carol I" proves its important value, that of an educational place with an old tradition, by being placed in a location which, over the years contributed to the cultural effervescence of our country. Documents of great historical and cultural importance can be mentioned: Neacsu’s Letter, the first document written in Romanian, also the existence of the first typography and of the first erudite typographers, who printed important books regarding education and faith. These documents and the permanent struggle, certify throughout the centuries the significant contribution of our town, Campulung-Muscel, brought to the cultural development. In the same direction can be included the appearance,in 1699,of an educational institution named The Lordly School, which rich people as well as poor people could attend.
This school provided a prominent place in Muscel County educational department. However, the town’s educational system recorded great success once The Normal School Carol I, in 1896, was founded and when the high school started functioning in a monumental building, founded by king Carol I. The construction work began on October 1892 and were conducted by the Italian architect Giovani Batista Dreina. Throughout its secular existence Carol I College has changed its name (Pedagogic High School) and location: between 1867-1896 it functioned in Bucharest. Returning to its old name, Carol I College, after 1989, the high school proves itself to be a hearth of culture and education, because, throughout the years continuously molded primary school teachers, valuable people to the educational system.
Today, tradition and modernity combine. The high school benefits obvious progress, with modern laboratories, computers, amphitheatres, gyms, etc. The educational process starts with the kindergarten, continues with the primary school, gymnasium and high school. The building also shelters the university section which has been functioning here since 1999,the educational system enriching itself with The Academic College, which became eventually The Educational Sciences Faculty, a section of the Pitesti University.
There is no doubt that this multilateral partnership enrolls in the tradition of our school to host important events, with great impact on our students. It follows other significant projects initiated by The College “Carol I” or in which our school took part. Thus, these constant and fervid initiatives convert our school into a modern school.
